Volunteers Needed

We are looking for a few more volunteers to fill the following Chair positions:
Cartridges for Kids
Newsletter
Legislation
Recycle Day
Book Fair Co-Chair

Art Appreciation:  Parent volunteers provide hands-on art lessons for students with the goal of instilling an appreciation for the Great Masters.

Art Night:  Your family will enjoy viewing the multiple masterpieces created by our students and participating in the recycled art contest!  Reflections awards are announced at this PTA Family Night.

Assemblies:  Throughout the school year, the PTA coordinates and funds entertaining and educational assemblies for our students.

Authors Fair:  Held during the day, a popular children’s author will entertain students with their experiences and inspirations.  Your child will also have an opportunity to purchase a book and have it personalized by the author.

Calendar:  Drawings by our students are highlighted in this handy calendar.  The calendar is complete with must-know dates and program descriptions for the school year!

Cartridges for Kids:  Help our efforts to GO GREEN and earn credit for the school!  Volunteers collect used ink cartridges and take them to Office Depot for store credit to purchase paper and school supplies!

Character Counts:  Parent volunteers assist in activities highlighting the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.  Some of the Character Counts activities are:
The Friendship Garden-maintain the garden located by the Kindergarten classrooms.
Life Lessons-students learn how to apply the pillars via martial arts.
Colored Wristbands-sold during Red Ribbon Week in conjunction with the week’s character lessons.
Friday Flag-pillars are discussed on Friday Flag mornings.

Chorus:  Held after school, parent volunteers lead participating students in song, and coordinate evening performances.

Coffee Talk:  An informational meeting held every-other month, open to all parents.  The principal and/or school staff will help you stay completely informed and involved in the many happenings at Canyon View.

Community Concerns:  The PTA actively supports our community members via periodic food and clothing drives.

Copy Center:  Volunteers are trained to use the school’s copy and laminating equipment to aid staff in completing classroom materials and projects.

Coyote Chronicles
:  Periodic newsletter combines latest PTA and school news for distribution to the Canyon View community.  Volunteers are needed to compile, edit, and disseminate the newsletter in both printed and electronic form.

Coyote Gear:  Express your “Coyote Pride” by purchasing one or more of the many spirit items.  Order forms are available at registration and in your student’s back-to-school packet.

Coyote Roundup & Silent Auction:  The Coyote Roundup is an incredible evening filled with games, music, food and fun for the entire family.  The event is held in conjunction with the Canyon View Foundation and their annual Silent Auction.  Come bid on fantastic baskets, food and travel gift certificates, and many other items!

Dad’s Club:  A school-based group of involved fathers that encourage active participation in their children’s classrooms and school activities.  Dad’s Club sponsors various campus improvement projects, as well as the:
Back-to-School Pancake Breakfast-August 22nd is the pancake breakfast held at the school.  The Dad’s Club provides the yummy food and asks only for donations to help fund campus projects.
Movie Nights-come see a recently released family movie on the Dad’s Club.  Concessions and other goodies are sold to complete the movie experience.  All you need is to come and enjoy!

Direct Donations:  No need to buy wrapping paper!  The PTA raises money throughout the school year to fund school programs like music and PE.

Directory:  Parents have the option to list their child in the school directory.  The directory IS NOT circulated outside the school’s enrollment, and is a handy tool for calling friends to schedule play dates.

Extra Mile Club:  This is held at morning recess on the lower field and is a great way for your child to get fit and be part of a fun activity.  Each lap your child runs will be logged, and they will earn awards for achieving mileage goals.  Parent permission is required.

Fall Fundraiser:  A convenient opportunity to purchase quality holiday gifts, wrap and confections while providing the PTA with its primary source of funding.

Holiday Gift Shop:  Students can purchase holiday gifts for family and friends at child-friendly prices.  Every classroom has a time allotted, and parent volunteers keep the tables stocked and help the children with their selections and purchases.  Children learn how to budget their money and practice generosity!

Hospitality:  The PTA sponsors various staff and parent appreciation activities throughout the year.

Howler:  An email-based form of communication sent to parents with helpful reminders.  The volunteer administrator will also receive the Coyote Chronicles for email distribution.

Ice Cream Social:  This first PTA family night will be on September 10th so Canyon View staff and families can get to know each other while enjoying delicious ice cream and toppings!

Marquee:  Facing the parking lot, the marquee is regularly updated with must-know activities and dates.

Merchant Fundraisers:  Includes eScrip, Office Depot, Target, Albertson’s Community Partners, Ralphs, Box Tops and Campbell’s Labels for Education.  Every time you participate in these programs, a portion of your purchase is donated to Canyon View.  Checkout the PTA website for easy links to these programs. Volunteers help collect information and track classroom participation.

Office/Health Office/Library Assistant:  Volunteers help staff as needed.

Picture Day:  Volunteers assist in organizing students for pictures.

Recycling:  Part of the PTA’s GO GREEN motto, volunteers assist with collection of bottles and cans during morning collection drives.

Red Ribbon Week:  A week of events, including an assembly, that encourages a healthy lifestyle and abstinence from drugs and alcohol.

Reflections:  National PTA arts competition providing students with an opportunity to express their creative talents with original works of art.  Artwork, which includes poetry and photography, is judged on a school, district and national level.

Room Representative:  Receive and forward emails from the PTA to the parents in your classroom.  Attend Coffee Talks at 7:45 am approximately 6
times throughout the year.  A great way to get to know parents in your child’s class.

Scholastic Book Fair:  Don’t miss this opportunity to restock your library with great books at great prices.  Open all week during school hours, the book fair includes an evening event so everyone can participate.

Shop & Dine Out:  Once a month, take the family out to eat at the designated restaurant and the restaurant will return part of the proceeds to the school.  One month also features shopping all day at Barnes & Noble and dinner at a restaurant.

Sock Hop:  Fun evening activity where families can dress in their best 50’s and 60’s garb and dance the evening away.  Volunteers are needed to decorate, lead games, sell concessions and trinkets, and clean-up after the event.

Talent Show:  For one spectacular evening, students show off a wide range of talents in this exceptionally entertaining and extraordinary show!  Volunteers help with tryouts, set building, rehearsals, and show night.

Used Book Sale:  Students can bring a book from home to exchange for one from this extensive library of gently used favorites, or just purchase books at very low prices.

Walk-to-School Day:  Created to get children out of cars and onto their feet, increasing their activity level and reducing traffic congestion and pollution.  It is also an opportunity for children to learn and practice safe pedestrian behavior.

Yearbook:  This photo-filled book will capture your child’s memories in perpetuity.  Help complete the layout of the year at Canyon View.  Volunteers will receive instructions for submitting items to the publisher for printing.
